Hockey is proud to offer
“College Hockey For Kids” for its Second Year. This
unique program will take place the weekend of June 11–13,
2004, at the
Arctic Ice Arena
in Orland Park.
The
purpose of the program is to give young players the
opportunity to learn from some of the most elite level coaches
our sport has to offer. Over the course of the 3 day period
each participant will have the opportunity to learn, through
both practice and game situations, from some of today’s
leading college coaches, representing Ferris State University,
Michigan State University, and the University of Michigan.
All of the participating coaches are professionals, who have
made coaching hockey their career. Take advantage and learn
from some of the most knowledgeable coaches our sport has to
offer, have an extremely enjoyable experience, and become an
improved hockey player through your participation in
College Hockey For Kids. Larry Pedrie will serve as the
program director for the camp.
Program Format
The program will be offered to players at the Pee Wee
(1992-1993) and Squirt (1994-1995) levels. Each level will be
split into 4 different teams, with each team made up of 2
goaltenders, 5 defensemen, and 9 forwards.
Each team will receive 2
practices, and 2 games, with each ice slot being 75 minutes in
length. The games will be preceded by a short warm-up period,
and then split into two 30 minute running time halves. All
players will receive equal ice time and instruction. Each
team will be assigned one of the college coaches, who will
remain with that team throughout the duration of the camp.
The coaches’ only priority will be to provide a positive,
enjoyable, fun-filled learning experience for each and every
player. The coaches will be providing constant instruction in
both the games and practices.
The format of the camp will
allow for the following number of players at each age group:
8 Goaltenders
~ 20 Defensemen ~ 36
Forwards
Registration will be accepted
on a first come, first serve basis, but will be limited to
travel players only. Please register early, as the camp
will fill very quickly.
Practice Format
Each team will receive two practices, to be conducted by
the head coach assigned to that team. The coaches will be
free to focus their direction in the areas of their choice.
Coaches will use their own personal library for practice
drills, allowing the players exposure to new drills, ideas,
and techniques. Each practice will be 75 minutes in length,
with the coaches keeping the players moving, with very little
“down time” during and between drills. First practice will be
Friday evening.
Game Format
Each team will receive 2 game, one on Saturday, and one
on Sunday. Each game will be split into two 30 minute running
time halves, preceded by a short warm-up. All lines,
defensemen, and goalies will be rotated evenly. All players
will receive group as well as personalized instruction, both
while on the ice and at the bench. Best effort, top
performance, and sportsmanship will be repeatedly emphasized
throughout each game. All instruction will be offered in a
positive and patient atmosphere.
